Two quotes just about do it…

By

A little history before we begin…

In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.

This week is a great time to pause and ask ourselves a powerful question.

•What am I giving my time to? Is it what I genuinely treasure?

First quote…

To start off, “Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow.”     - Edward Sandford Martin-

If we were challenged this Thanksgiving to, stop, slow down, and search the depths of our hearts I think the challenge would severely demean our God giving capacity to walk this out frequently.

Psalm 100:3-5

3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his[a];
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

I don’t believe the Lord would ask us to enter His presence with thanksgiving  if there was nothing to be thankful for. If there’s a struggle to see the Lords’ goodness in your life and family, it is not due to lack of divine action in your life. May our prayer be for eyes to see what God daily provides.

I think this sums it beautifully…

“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”
-Thornton Wilder-

Have a superb Thanksgiving!!!
